Is John McCain Really Pro-Life?

It has come to my attention that many well-meaning pro-life advocates are supporting John McCain and campaigning for his election as President of the United States of America. However, ignorance is not bliss and in this case it will cost precious lives. I have put together some information from an explicitly Christian point of view for you to consider before campaigning and voting for John McCain in this fall's presidential election. First of all, I want to direct your attention to this article written by John Lofton of The American View in the fall of 2006: McCain Answers On Abortion, Homosexuality Anything But “Straight Talk” Mr. Lofton makes an excellent point by commenting that "No, McCain is not pro-life because he believes in exceptions, that it’s OK to murder some innocent, unborn babies by abortion, as he’ll admit a little later in this interview." John McCain believes that it is acceptable to allow the murder of preborn children who were conceived in less than id

Are You a Titus 2 Woman?

The GOP candidacy of Sarah Palin for vice president has set off a firestorm of controversy. Many conservatives were prepared to defend a direct attack against Biblical and traditional womanhood if Hillary Clinton had received the Democratic nomination for President, but they were not expecting the Republicans to nominate a Christian woman for VP. These very same conservatives are now applauding the choice of Palin and seem to have forgotten what the Word of God says about the role of a Christian woman. I pray you will not be misled or ignorant on this matter, but instead will seek to be a ‘Titus 2 woman’. God’s Word tells us: “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their child

Sarah Palin and the feminism which has invaded the church in America

The blogosphere has been full of stories and opinions about the recent nomination of Sarah Palin for Vice President of the United States. Conservative Christian leaders such as James Dobson and Phyllis Schlafly have embraced her candidacy and she is receiving endorsements from pro-family groups. But I suppose the most surprising fact of her candidacy is that even though she boasts of being a member of Feminists for Life and complimented Hillary Clinton for the 18 million cracks made in the “glass ceiling” not too much is being said about the role reversal (Mr. Palin is reportedly “Mr. Mom” and the primary caregiver for their children) in Ms. Palin’s family by these very same groups which have made their mark by standing up for the traditional American family. They seem to have cleanly swept the feminism of Ms. Palin under the rug. But perhaps the problem of feminism goes much deeper than para-church ministries and pro-family groups and instead stems from within the modern day church. L

The Christian and Politics: Stand Fast

The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me: ‘He who rules over men must be just, Ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, Like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain.’ (2 Samuel 23: 3-4 – NKJV) Dear Friends, Many are shouting for Christians to do something to save America, when perhaps the best course of action may be to simply stand fast (or still) wearing our spiritual armor and looking to the LORD until He commands us into action. Here is a devotional from Charles Spurgeon’s “Morning & Evening Daily Readings” which has good advice that I believe is applicable for the Christian in the political realm as we wait for strong godly men to vote for. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." (Exodus 14:13) “These words contain God's command to the believer when he is reduced to great straits a

Hope for the Nations: Declare Dependence Upon God

This Independence Day I spent some time reading about the history of America and the dynamics involved in the writing of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the ratification of the Constitution in 1787. The thunder and flash of cannon fire filled my imagination and dreams. I could almost catch a glimpse of the vision of independence from tyranny which the colonists had. I now find that the LORD is building upon that glimpse into the hearts and minds of the Founders and fanning the flame for freedom within my heart. A few years ago I came across a document called a “Declaration of Dependence Upon God ” written by Jay Rogers of The Forerunner , an international Christian media group which seeks to impart Christians with a Biblical Worldview. The Declaration states: “We, the Christian citizens of the United States of America, thankfully acknowledge God's faithfulness towards us and the permission to choose our civil rulers, which God entrusts and gran

Christians Are Called To A Higher Standard

For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Romans 13:9 – NKJV) Before my new birth in Christ in 1993, I had thought I was a “good” person, but in my heart I knew I was hell bound due to my sins, even though I had everything a woman could want: a wonderful husband, two beautiful children, a lovely home and many of the finer things of life. But I was still miserable because I knew I was not serving God and even though I was trying to make myself into a “good” person, it just wasn’t working! Over a period of several years, the LORD brought me to the end of myself and in desperation I reached out to Him and He was there. He then led me to repent (turn away) from my sins and rely upon His completed work on the Cross (Christ’s sacrifice and atonement

Straw Polls and Values Voters

It seems as though the media has been inundated with the latest popularity polls and results for who may be our next president. Straw polls and their results have been headlining the national and local newspapers for weeks, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Conservative Christians even held their own Values Voters forum where they questioned candidates on moral issues, and then took their own straw poll of the candidates. The delegates voting were chosen by national conservative leaders. The September 17, 2007 press release from ValuesVoters.com states: “This isn't about partisanship. It's about values. It’s not about the letter behind the name, rather it’s about the values of the heart and the policies that effect the public.” (Source: http://www.valuesvoterdebate.com/ ) My sincere hope and prayer is that the Values Voters will look beyond political party affiliation when they choose a candidate to support. Christians should have Biblical standards for choosing politica

A Christian Prayer for America

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. “I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. “Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, w

Keeping an open door for the preaching of the Gospel

By Angela Wittman In my previous editorial I gave a brief introduction to the book “The Ladies of the Covenant: Memoirs of Distinguished Scottish Female Covenanters, Embracing the Period of the Covenant and the Persecution” written by Rev. James Anderson and published in 1850. My hope is to introduce you to the women who lived during the period of the Reformation (from the 1500’s through the 1600’s) in Scotland and also during the most intense time of persecution, known as “The Killing Times” (1680 – 1688). It is reported that approximately 18,000 men, women and children died for their Christian faith during this brief time. Christians can prosper from the testimony of those who have faced difficult times and held fast to their faith. The faithful witness of those who were persecuted and martyred for their testimony of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will strengthen and encourage us as we see our culture becoming less tolerant of Christianity. I pray we will use the examples set by the

'for such a time as this'

"...and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (The Book of Esther 4:14C, KJV) Dear Friends, The famous 19th century Dutch theologian and Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Abraham Kuyper, is quoted as saying: "When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become your sin; you must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith." I believe we are living in such a time that we need to lay all our convictions bare and fight with all the fire of our faith for a Christian Republic. Just one look at the headlines in the news should be enough to convince even the most hardened skeptic that our nation is in dire straits. Even those who are not of the Christian faith must admit that the violence and injustice being perpetrated against American citizens is wrong. The streets of America are no long

Not Good Enough

By Angela Wittman And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto... Exodus 32: 7, 8a - KJV Dear Friends, As editor of an on-line pro-life newsletter, Christian Activist Pro-Life News ( www.prolifenews.info ), and as a Christian pro-life activist I try to stay informed of the latest news concerning the pro-life movement. I confess to being suspicious of legislation popular with the majority of conservatives, as they often lose sight of the goal, which is ending all killing of pre-born human beings. In their quest for expediency, they will sacrifice the lives of innocent human beings who may have been conceived in less than perfect circumstances, such as rape or incest. Or they may think a baby whose mother may die during the pregnancy

Why I Have Declined a Seat on the Alito Bandwagon

By Angela Wittman A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8, KJV) Now that Samuel Alito has been confirmed to the supreme Court, I have received numerous endorsements, praises and letters of applause from leading conservative organizations who are riding high on his appointment to the supreme Court as a pro-life victory... But is it really? Or have these groups been taken for a ride? As for me, I have declined to take a seat on the Alito bandwagon, and here are just a few reasons why: On November 15, 2005, it was reported in the Associated Press article "Alito Downplays 1985 Abortion Statement" that when Sen. Dianne Feinstein had questioned Judge Alito about a document in which he stated to the Reagan administration that "the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion" he evasively replied "I was an advocate seeking a job...I'm now a judge...I'm not an advocate, I don't give heed to my personal views..." His respons

Kiss the Son

By Angela Wittman Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (Psalm 2:12, KJV) Dear Friends, This essay is about laying a good, solid Christian foundation for our nation. Many of you may believe that we already have a good Christian foundation in America, and the proof is found in our national Constitution, which was written by our Founding Fathers. You may have prayed for our national leaders to follow it, in order for "We the People" to be put back in charge of America. Perhaps you have thought that if only our liberties were still protected, and our rights secured, we would once more be the shining city upon a hill for the whole world to see. As individuals we would once more be independent and unjust laws would no longer violate our freedoms. If you have kept copies of articles I have written in the past, you will find these very same beliefs and thoughts expressed i

Third parties should build credibility at the local level

http://www.illinoisleader.com Third parties should build credibility at the local level first Tuesday, May 10, 2005 While reading the editorial "Stufflebeam in '06?" I wondered if I should respond or not, as I am a founder of the Constitution Party of Illinois. So, I have decided to leave this at your discretion as to whether or not my response is published at Illinois Leader. My hope and prayer is that the Constitution Party in Illinois will focus on running candidates in local elections, such as city council and county board before spending time, energy, and resources on a candidate for governor. It has been said that "all politics is local", and this is a wise saying, especially in reference to third parties. A base of support needs to be built before going after such a high profile office. Credibility must be established for any new struggling party. I pray the Constitution Party of Illinois will please remember these wise words as they make their political

Why I am a Christian Independent

By Angela Wittman Dear Friends, It has come to my attention that there is some speculation as to why I resigned my position as the co-chair(lady) of the Constitution Party of Illinois. Let me set the record straight, as there have been false assumptions and presumptions, which leads to deception. My resignation in January of 2005 did not come easily as I had worked tirelessly since the year 2001 to raise awareness of the Constitution Party in Illinois. I spent my spare time attending gun shows, protesting at abortion clinics, attending debates, writing letters "to the editor" of Illinois newspapers and attending public functions and meetings on behalf of the party. I thought I had found a new political home as I had seen the compromise of the Republican party and knew in my heart I could no longer support them or their candidates in good conscience. I then came under scrutiny by some of the National Constitution Party leaders for my religious beliefs. I am under the impressio

Keeping Score?

By Angela Wittman "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love." (John 15:10 ESV) Dear Friends, Scripture tells us that if we keep God's commandments, we will abide in His love. I think this truth not only applies to individual Christians, but to nations and their leaders as well. It is the intent of this essay to prompt the reader to examine not only their personal walk with the LORD, but to also examine our newly elected president's walk with the LORD (or lack of a walk with Him.) In this essay, I want to take a look at the Scriptural qualifications we are to use when choosing a civil leader. We can then see if we have chosen a man to lead our country with spiritual qualifications that are in accordance with God's Word: Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thous

Have We Forgotten The Name of the LORD Our God?

By Angela Wittman And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (Deuteronomy 6:5 - KJV) Dear Friends, When I heard that Imam Izak-El M. Pasha, the Muslim chaplain of the New York City Police Department, delivered the National Republican Convention invocation I was very dismayed at the lack of righteous indignation, little complaint or outcry from the Christian community. In fact, I have been listening for an outcry against President Bush hosting the annual Iftaar Dinner in the Whitehouse for almost four years now and the silence from the majority of evangelical Christians is deafening. Praise the LORD! I am hearing condemnation for the Islamic terrorists who tortured, maimed and killed the precious children in Russia. But what I am not hearing is an overwhelming outcry against those who are torturing, maiming and killing unwanted children in the womb (and sometimes, just barely out of the womb.) If we were truly outraged o

'Ponder the path of your feet...let all your ways be established'

By Angela Wittman "In the November 2004 elections, my plea with Christians is to vote for righteousness, ... The Bible says that righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people [Proverbs 14:34]. If Christians vote for Republicans or Democrats, they are wasting their votes." -- (Steve Lefemine, Director of Columbia Christians for Life ) Dear Friends, I am convinced that to achieve victory in the war against murder of children by abortion, we need to stop being afraid to offend and begin speaking the truth in love. This is how we will transform our culture to once more being predominately Christian instead of the multi-cultural, pluralistic and intolerant society the God-haters are constructing. Some will tell you that we must end the murder of the unborn babies incrementally...I disagree. I think we need to draw a line in the sand and say we will not support or vote for those candidates who have compromised on the issue of life for babies -- regardless

Remember Our Heritage: Freedom of Speech

By Angela Wittman "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." -- First Amendment To THE BILL OF RIGHTS Of THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES of America "You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments;rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe." --John Adams, Second President of the United States Dear Friends, As we near election day here in Illinois and cast our ballot for the future Governor of our great state, let us be informed voters and truly vote our conscience. I pray we will diligently research the candidates and find out how they have voted on past issues and what action they have taken on those issues while holding public office. We may need to be

Remember Our Heritage: Leading Men And Why Ladies Love To Follow Them

By Angela Wittman As we look back through history and read of the leading men of our nation, let us take note of these men and the characteristics they had in common as they lived and died for the birth of our Republic of the United States of America. From the book America's God and Country, by William Federer, we read of leading men and how second President John Adams exhibited true patriotism while writing these words in June of 1776: "If it be the pleasure of Heaven that my country shall require the poor offering of my life, the victim shall be ready, at the appointed hour of sacrifice......But while I do live, let me have a country, and that a free country!" And who can forget the fire and passion of Patrick Henry who exclaimed, "Give me Liberty or give me death!" Or the courageous, compassionate leadership of General George Washington at Valley Forge who wrote: "No history now extant can furnish an instance of an army's suffering such uncommon hard
