Wisdom from Elisabeth Elliot: "Let Me Be a Woman"

Let Me Be a Woman by Elisabeth Elliot "This is what I understand to be the essence of femininity. It means surrender. Think of a bride. She surrenders her independence, her name, her destiny, her will, herself to the bridegroom in marriage. ... The first woman was made specifically for the first man, a helper, to meet, respond to, surrender to, and complement him. God made her from the man, out of his very bone, and then He brought her to the man. When Adam named Eve, he accepted responsibility to “husband” her—to provide for her, to cherish her, to protect her. These two people together represent the image of God—one of them in a special way the initiator, the other the responder. Neither the one nor the other was adequate alone to bear the divine image. God put these two in a perfect place and—you know the rest of the story. Eve, in her refusal to accept the will of God, refused her femininity. Adam, in his capitulation to her suggestion, abdicated his masculine responsibility f

Cultivating a Gentle Quiet Spirit

By Angela Wittman Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;  While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.  Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;  But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.   For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:  Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.  (1 Peter 3:1-6 KJV)  Something about the latest controversy of women teachers in the conservative Reformed churches has been bothering me, but I just couldn'

My Mother: A Woman of Strength, Beauty and Morality

By Angela Wittman My mother, Marsha Somers, in the mid 1970's I've been thinking about the values I was taught as a child and the example my mother set before me who passed away from an aggressive form of cancer 21 years ago. I think the lessons she tried to impart were based upon her Christian upbringing, and while she had strayed from the church, she didn't stray too far from Christian morals. If there is any wisdom mom would want to impart to her granddaughters, great-granddaughters and nieces, it would be to seek the Lord first in your life and then pattern your life after women in the Bible and other authentic Christian women found throughout history. So, while mom wasn't perfect, (she had a famous Scottish temper), she did find peace, love and forgiveness at the cross of Christ before her death. I still marvel at the change that came over her as her heart softened and her mind was renewed with the Word of God. I also remember how accepting she was when we found ou

Here we go again... Feminism in the Church and What are the Biblical Qualifications for Candidates?

By Angela Wittman Image from thehill.com I've been sitting back watching the political entertainment of those vying for the position of President in 2016 and wondering if or when I should wade in... Well, after seeing Donald Trump's captivation of the evangelical vote and his recent endorsement from Sarah Palin, this just might be a good time for me to once more remind the "religious right" of the qualifications for godly leadership. This is probably going to anger some of the Christian "feminists," so please know in advance that I won't approve your comments or engage in any cat fights. The text below is taken from a blog post written in 2008 about the nomination of Sarah Palin as a Vice-Presidential candidate, but it is also applicable for all ladies considering a run for political office: Sarah Palin and the feminism which has invaded the church in America  The blogosphere has been full of stories and opinions about the recent nomination of Sarah Pali

Reaping the Fruit of Feminism

By Angela Wittman A sower went forth to sow Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that he will also reap. Gal. 6:7 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Ephesians 5:22,23 Dear Friends, This article is written mostly for my sisters in Christ who are struggling with the fruit of feminism. What is the fruit of feminism? Discontentment Broken marriages Depression The murder of preborn babies by abortion Couples living together without marriage Fornication and adultery Homosexuality Suicide Neglected and abused children Unemployment and loss of jobs for men I firmly believe that we can trace these ills of society to feminism. Feminism is a radical transformation of our culture. Traditional families are to be destroyed, and as a result lives are lost through disease, suicide and abortion. Do you think I may be exaggerating

A discerning look at 'Biblical Patriarchy' and those who abuse it

By Angela Wittman While much of what Doug Phillips teaches regarding Patriarchy sounds biblical, because of the lack of practical application, his teachings are often taken to extremes. Sometimes, men just hear his vision of men always “leading,” and they become domineering and demanding, causing undue stress on the wife. I know of one family that divorced precisely because of hearing this teaching and not understanding what it really should be. Sometimes, men will try to emulate what they see in Doug Phillips, and start requiring their families to have all the same rules as the Phillips. Unfortunately, if there are no personal convictions behind the rules, they soon become extremely oppressive and smother the family. Some men just have no clue about how to “lead” their families; they just know that it’s being constantly preached at them from the pulpit. Having come from a home without a godly leader, these men need lots of practical examples. (Taken from: Doug Phillips’ Kangaroo Court

Women Should be Honored and Cherished

By Angela Wittman I have been thinking much about the role of women in today's society and how we have been demeaned and deceived with feminism and all its supposed equality. I believe it has brought us more misery than benefits. First of all, let's look at the role of wives from a Biblical standpoint: Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6 Ev

His Creation Order

By Angela Wittman Wives 'to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.' The recent endor sement of South Carolina GOP Gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley by Sarah Palin and her good showing in the primary has many attributing her popularity to Mrs. Palin's endorsement and continued involvement in her campaign . But at what cost to the family of Nikki Haley and those women who try to follow in her political footsteps? Politico reporter Kasie Hunt wrote this about Sarah Palin and her influence in conservative GOP races in the article Sister Sledgehammer: Sarah Palin takes aim at Dem women : "Palin is emerging not only as a standard-bearer for social conservatives but as a campaign trail Annie Oakley, a pioneering female pol who not only intends to flex her muscle to carry conservative women to office but also to shove more than a few Democratic women out of the way. “ 'No one before

A 'higher calling'

Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, recently announced her intention to resign from office, and offered this explanation in her resignation speech: "In fact, this decision comes after much consideration and finally polling the most important people in my life - my children (where the count was unanimous... well, in response to asking: 'Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children's future from outside the Governor's office?' It was four 'yes's' and one 'hell yeah!' The 'hell yeah' sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that... I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently.) Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities right – that time is precious... the wo

Are You a Titus 2 Woman?

The GOP candidacy of Sarah Palin for vice president has set off a firestorm of controversy. Many conservatives were prepared to defend a direct attack against Biblical and traditional womanhood if Hillary Clinton had received the Democratic nomination for President, but they were not expecting the Republicans to nominate a Christian woman for VP. These very same conservatives are now applauding the choice of Palin and seem to have forgotten what the Word of God says about the role of a Christian woman. I pray you will not be misled or ignorant on this matter, but instead will seek to be a ‘Titus 2 woman’. God’s Word tells us: “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their child

Sarah Palin and the feminism which has invaded the church in America

The blogosphere has been full of stories and opinions about the recent nomination of Sarah Palin for Vice President of the United States. Conservative Christian leaders such as James Dobson and Phyllis Schlafly have embraced her candidacy and she is receiving endorsements from pro-family groups. But I suppose the most surprising fact of her candidacy is that even though she boasts of being a member of Feminists for Life and complimented Hillary Clinton for the 18 million cracks made in the “glass ceiling” not too much is being said about the role reversal (Mr. Palin is reportedly “Mr. Mom” and the primary caregiver for their children) in Ms. Palin’s family by these very same groups which have made their mark by standing up for the traditional American family. They seem to have cleanly swept the feminism of Ms. Palin under the rug. But perhaps the problem of feminism goes much deeper than para-church ministries and pro-family groups and instead stems from within the modern day church. L

Fathers, Protect Your Daughters

I recently received an email from a 19 year-old young lady who has declined to go away to college or seek to live independently outside of her parents home. Instead she is content to wait for the LORD to bring her a husband who will honor, cherish, love and protect her. Her father, a Christian man, is in agreement and pleased to continue to protect and take care of his daughter. I think there is a beautiful lesson in this father and daughter relationship for all of us to learn: God created the family and He instructs fathers to protect their daughters. If you are grieved by the recent statistics from the CDC which report that one out of four teenage girls (14 – 19 years old) has a sexually transmitted disease, then you cannot help but acknowledge that something is terribly wrong with America. We have allowed our children to become sexual playmates with no moral sense of right and wrong. We have not only lost our moral compass, we have sacrificed our children to the hedonistic world whi

A Meek and Quiet Spirit

By Angela Wittman Dear Friends, This essay is written for today's conservative Christian women who are strong, smart, capable and doing a man's job. Yes, I said doing a man's job. I can remember as a new Christian hearing women in the church complaining that men weren't doing their job, and the women were having to do it for them. Then I also saw many of the Christian women whom I admired, lose their husbands and families to divorce. You may have read the Barna Group's most recent poll results concerning Christians and divorce: "Although many Christian churches attempt to dissuade congregants from getting a divorce, the research confirmed a finding identified by Barna a decade ago (and further confirmed through tracking studies conducted each year since): born again Christians have the same likelihood of divorce as do non-Christians. Among married born again Christians, 35% have experienced a divorce. That figure is identical to the outcome among married adults

Is this any way to treat a lady?

By Angela Wittman "If certain federal lawmakers have their way, your eighteen-year-old daughters will be registered for selective service and drafted for combat by the next war or U.N. "peacekeeping" operation. Should she find herself engaged in an overseas military exercise of any kind, you will be expected to accept as part of her duty, that if captured, she may be shot and gang raped. You will be told that this is the price of freedom which must be equally borne by men and women alike. If this future seems far-fetched, then you may be blind to one of the single greatest socio-cultural changes to occur in the history of West for more than 2,500 years." (The Church Must Oppose the Sin of Women at War, by Douglas W. Phillips, Esq./ Vision Forum Ministries) "To have women serving as soldiers on the battlefield is an abomination in the eyes of God and ought to be an offense to righteous men and women. It is an abandonment of the God-given order for society
