Third parties should build credibility at the local level first
Tuesday, May 10, 2005
While reading the editorial "Stufflebeam in '06?" I wondered if I should respond or not, as I am a founder of the Constitution Party of Illinois. So, I have decided to leave this at your discretion as to whether or not my response is published at Illinois Leader.
My hope and prayer is that the Constitution Party in Illinois will focus on running candidates in local elections, such as city council and county board before spending time, energy, and resources on a candidate for governor.
It has been said that "all politics is local", and this is a wise saying, especially in reference to third parties. A base of support needs to be built before going after such a high profile office. Credibility must be established for any new struggling party.
I pray the Constitution Party of Illinois will please remember these wise words as they make their political plans:
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? (Luke 14:28, KJV)
