A discerning look at Ted Weiland's "Bible Law vs. the United States Constitution: The Christian Perspective"

By Angela Wittman I believe I have found within the Scriptures the key to what made America great, and this key can restore her to her former greatness. - Ted Weiland, ( Bible Law vs. the United States Constitution; The Christian Perspective , http://www.bibleversusconstitution.org/BlvcOnline/biblelaw-constitutionalism-preface.html) A couple of years ago Ted Weiland contacted me and asked if he might send me his primer on  Bible Law vs. the United States Constitution: The Christian Perspective . After receiving and reviewing the primer, I decided to toss it in the trash due to the concern that Mr. Weiland was missing a foundational point - Biblical covenanting.  And after recently reviewing his work in greater detail, I believe the reformed and theonomic community should be cautious about Mr. Weiland's book and his beliefs. Due to some glaring "red flags" I encountered while researching Mr. Weiland, I've decided to write this warning and state my concerns. First of a

Give Thanks to the LORD!

By Angela Wittman Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! 1 Chronicles 16:8 – NKJV As we prepare our homes for the gathering of family and friends this Thanksgiving season, let’s not forget to prepare our hearts in humble gratefulness to God for the blessings and grace which He has bestowed upon us as individuals and as a nation. Here is a bit of history about Thanksgiving which you may not have been taught in school as taken from the website “ A Puritan’s Mind ” by Dr. C. Matthew McMahon: “The celebration we now popularly regard as the ‘First Thanksgiving’ was the Pilgrims' three-day feast celebrated in early November of 1621 (although a day of thanks in America was observed in Virginia at Cape Henry in 1607)... “The Pilgrims left Plymouth, England, on September 6, 1620, sailing for a new world that offered the promise of both civil and religious liberty. The Pilgrims had earlier left England in 1608, as the Church of England had cu

'Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.'

By Angela Wittman Dear Friends, [caption id="" align="alignright" width="148"] Saddam Hussein statue falling  (Photo credit: Wikipedia)[/caption] There has been much local and national debate about the war in Iraq. It seems we have seen and heard almost every opinion imaginable expressed. We have been bombarded with horrific scenes of bombing, shooting and burning while staying tuned to our television sets. Who can forget the scenes of a blinding sandstorm and the brave men in uniform? I even received a beautiful photo via e-mail of soldiers who had dug a shallow pool in the sand, lined with canvas and filled with water for the sacrament of baptism. May God bless our troops! I have chosen two explicitly Christian responses to the war in Iraq to share with you and, which I pray will give you another view point from which to look at the War. The first is written by Pastor Doug Holmes of Sovereign Grace Church in Coulter, Iowa, who is also an ex-marine. His

Remember Our Heritage: Freedom of Speech

By Angela Wittman "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." -- First Amendment To THE BILL OF RIGHTS Of THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES of America "You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments;rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe." --John Adams, Second President of the United States Dear Friends, As we near election day here in Illinois and cast our ballot for the future Governor of our great state, let us be informed voters and truly vote our conscience. I pray we will diligently research the candidates and find out how they have voted on past issues and what action they have taken on those issues while holding public office. We may need to be

Remember Our Heritage: Leading Men And Why Ladies Love To Follow Them

By Angela Wittman As we look back through history and read of the leading men of our nation, let us take note of these men and the characteristics they had in common as they lived and died for the birth of our Republic of the United States of America. From the book America's God and Country, by William Federer, we read of leading men and how second President John Adams exhibited true patriotism while writing these words in June of 1776: "If it be the pleasure of Heaven that my country shall require the poor offering of my life, the victim shall be ready, at the appointed hour of sacrifice......But while I do live, let me have a country, and that a free country!" And who can forget the fire and passion of Patrick Henry who exclaimed, "Give me Liberty or give me death!" Or the courageous, compassionate leadership of General George Washington at Valley Forge who wrote: "No history now extant can furnish an instance of an army's suffering such uncommon hard

Remember Our Heritage: Liberty and Freedom

By Angela Wittman "On the morning of Sept. 11, American Airlines ground manager Michael Woodward received a phone call that immediately got his full attention....."Listen, and listen to me very carefully. I'm on Flight 11. The airplane has been hijacked," said the voice on the other end. The caller was Amy Sweeney, a flight attendant on board American Airlines Flight 11, which had just been hijacked on its way from Boston to Los Angeles. Over the next 25 minutes, Sweeney, a 13-year veteran with the airline, calmly relayed information to Woodward that would later be crucial in helping the FBI identify the men who hijacked the plane and flew it into the north tower of the World Trade Center....... Woodward said Sweeney spoke "very, very calmly... in a way which was quick but calm." She gave him the seat numbers for four of the five hijackers, allowing airline staff to pull up their names, phone numbers, addresses - and even credit card numbers - on the reserv

Remember Our Heritage: A Leading First Lady

Abigail Adams - Wikipedia By Angela Wittman "You have this day to declare yourself head of a nation. "And now, O Lord, my God, Thou hast made thy servant ruler over the people. "Give unto him an understanding heart, that he may know how to go out and come in before this great people; that he may discern between good and bad. "For who is able to judge this thy so great a people?" were the words of a royal Sovereign; and not less applicable to him who is invested with the Chief Magistracy of a nation, though he wear not a crown nor robes of royalty... "Though personally absent...my petitions to Heaven are that "the things which make for peace may not be hidden from your eyes." "That you may be enabled to discharge them with honor to yourself, with justice and impartiality to your country, and with satisfaction to this great people, shall be the daily prayer of your Abigail Adams. " (Taken from America's God and Cou

Remembering Our Heritage: 'One nation under God'

By Angela Wittman As we near Independence Day, I pray we will reflect upon our Christian heritage and the courageous men who founded our nation. I have assembled some quotes from our Founding Fathers that I pray you will take to heart and pass on to your children: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..." --Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) "We have this day restored the Sovereign to Whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun - let His kingdom come." --James Madison signing the Declaration of Independence, (July 4, 1776) "Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?" --Thomas Jefferson (1782) "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too
