Inauguration 2013: 'a time to mourn'

Google and the push to "Legalize Love"

By Angela Wittman Updated 8.14.2012 Christian Post recently featured an article on Google and its push/campaign to "Legalize Love" in countries that Google has offices " where homosexual activities are illegal or same-sex relationships are not legally recognized ." The Christian Post article goes on to quote Mark Palmer-Edgecumbe , the head of Google's Diversity and Inclusion department for Europe, Middle East and Africa regions as saying, "We want our employees who are gay or lesbian or transgender to have the same experience outside the office as they do in the office." And he then goes on to give Singapore as an example of a country where homosexuality is banned and Poland which does not legally recognize homosexual marriage. Oreo cookies get political

By Angela Wittman Last week ABC News reported that Oreo Cookies had gotten "Gay Pride" and their rainbow stuffed cookie posted on Facebook  sparked some controversy . The article went on to say that some folks are planning to boycott the cookies made by Kraft Foods. I think boycotts are an effective tool for consumers to use. And frankly, the cookies really aren't a good food choice when one investigates their nutritional value : one serving of 34 grams has 160 calories, 7 grams of fat (of which 2 grams are saturated), 14 grams of sugar and 160 milligrams of sodium. The list of ingredients used to make these cookies includes high fructose corn syrup which has been linked to obesity and the many health concerns associated with it in North America . My advice for Christian consumers is to forego the unhealthy cookie that appears to have a political agenda and eat a healthier, tasty alternative that can easily be prepared in your own kitchen.  This alternative gives you cont

Blow the trumpet!

Keeping an open door for the preaching of the Gospel

By Angela Wittman In my previous editorial I gave a brief introduction to the book “The Ladies of the Covenant: Memoirs of Distinguished Scottish Female Covenanters, Embracing the Period of the Covenant and the Persecution” written by Rev. James Anderson and published in 1850. My hope is to introduce you to the women who lived during the period of the Reformation (from the 1500’s through the 1600’s) in Scotland and also during the most intense time of persecution, known as “The Killing Times” (1680 – 1688). It is reported that approximately 18,000 men, women and children died for their Christian faith during this brief time. Christians can prosper from the testimony of those who have faced difficult times and held fast to their faith. The faithful witness of those who were persecuted and martyred for their testimony of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will strengthen and encourage us as we see our culture becoming less tolerant of Christianity. (The Book of Esther 4:14C, KJV) Dear Friends, The famous 19th century Dutch theologian and Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Abraham Kuyper, is quoted as saying: "When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become your sin; you must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith." I believe we are living in such a time that we need to lay all our convictions bare and fight with all the fire of our faith for a Christian Republic. I recently read the report HIV/AIDS among African Americans/AIDS in 2003 written by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) which documents cases of HIV/AIDS among African Americans. The report begins with this startling statement: The HIV/AIDS epidemic is a health crisis for African Americans. In 2001, HIV/AIDS was among the top 3 causes of death for African American men aged 25–54 years and among the top 4 causes of death for African American women aged 20–54 years.
