2012 Elections: Why I've decided to dissent

By Angela Wittman Disagreement, non-conformity, and opposition to our present government and the current two-party system is not a bad thing for a Christian to do and this is why I've decided to dissent and not vote in the 2012 elections.  And while there may be some worthy third party candidates, I just can't find one to vote for at this time - sorry. Perhaps if I were more ignorant about the current candidates and political parties, I would have a clear conscience and could vote for either the lesser of the two evils (Romney/Obama) or a candidate running on a third party platform that looks great on paper, but lacks in actual practice by the party leaders and their candidates. Some critics might charge that I am seeking perfection in a candidate, but those who know me realize that I have a pragmatic streak which can sometimes serve as a thorn in my flesh; I am continually looking for practical ways to advance the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and often have to put a halt

2012 Elections: What are the Biblical Qualifications for Candidates?

By Angela Wittman As we approach November 6 th and the 2012 elections, the Christian would do well to ask what the Biblical qualifications for leaders are and then apply these principles to those seeking public office. A good resource for those seeking to bring glory to God in the political arena and the voting booth is the book  Explicitly Christian Politics , published by Christian Statesman Press and edited by William O. Einwechter. In the Appendix of Explicitly Christian Politics on pages 256 and 257 under the heading The Scriptures Require Moral and Religious, not Ecclesiastical, Qualifications and Duties of Civil Officers is this list of qualifications with Scripture proofs that one can use to measure the Biblical qualifications of candidates seeking their vote: Civil rulers are ministers of God, deriving all just authority ultimately from Him ( Prov. 8:15-16 ; Rom. 13:4-6 ). Civil officers hold their trust from God, through the people, to protect and enforce right, and restrai

2012 Elections: What to do “when the wicked beareth rule…”

By Angela Wittman (Revised and updated 9.16.2012) “ When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn .” Proverbs 29:2 KJV There has been much discussion in Christian circles about how one should vote in the upcoming 2012 Presidential elections.  And while I won’t presume to tell the reader who to cast their vote for, I will share some Christian history on how earlier followers of Jesus Christ believed and taught on this important aspect of our life: Biblical Christianity and the civil government. Much of the information I am presenting was found in “Reformed Confessions Harmonized” edited by Joel Beeke and Sinclair Ferguson, the “Historic Church Documents” page at Reformed.org (CRTA – Center for Reformed Theology and Apologetics) and the website “ A Puritan’s Mind ” created by Dr. C. Matthew McMahon. The Belgic Confession (1561) is known as one of the oldest reformed doctrinal standards and originated in the Nether

Worship the One Who Rules the Nations

By Angela Wittman Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The Lord reigneth. (1 Chron. 16:31, KJV) I recently entered into a discussion with some well-meaning conservatives about pluralism in America. The general consensus appears to be that they want pluralism and believe that having a poly-theistic nation is desirable. What surprises me is that they say they want America to return to her Christian roots, but also believe that people of all religious faiths should have freedom to worship their false gods. Perhaps I am just an old-fashioned puritan at heart, but this view of “freedom” by honoring multi-gods sounds double-minded to me. My hope and prayer is the conservatives who believe this will think a little harder and dig a little deeper into Scripture and see that their thinking is not founded on the Rock called Christ Jesus, nor is true liberty to be found anywhere but in Christ Jesus alone, who is an exclusive and jealous God. Pro-Life Hero Rep. Bobby Franklin Remembered as a Man of Christian Principles

By Angela Wittman “Rep. Franklin would want his legacy to be one of principled leadership. He wasvery fond of saying it is never the right time to do the wrong thing,” Setzler said. “He would want to be remembered first as a person of faith and second as a person who loved his country and loved liberty.” - Rep. Ed Setzler, Franklin remembered for his principles, dedication, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 7.26.2011 Rep. Bobby Franklin of Marietta, Georgia was found dead of apparently natural causes in his home on July 26th. Rep. Bobby Franklin was a consistent defender of life as is proven by his sponsorship of Georgia HB1 . The Summary of the bill states: A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend the Official Code of Georgia Annotated so as to provide that prenatal murder shall be unlawful in all events and to remove numerous references to such procedures; to amend Title 16, relating to crimes and offenses, so as to make certain findings of fact; to define certain terms; to provide that

Blow the trumpet!

By Angela Wittman "...Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul." - Ezekiel 33:2-5 KJV Let us sound the trumpet loud and clear... Danger that should strike holy fear into the very heart of God's people is at the door. I am referring to the wickedness of those in high places who push, shove and force their agenda upon the backs of hard working taxpayers in America. They think their thick boot heels can crush the Spirit of God's people, and for good measure

Open Letter to Christian Liberty Party Readership

Dear Friends of Christian Liberty, I am writing you on behalf of the “Christian Liberty Party” which has been on-line since 2006. Below is a message from Keith Humphrey, the owner of the Christian Liberty Party website and domain, to give you a general, brief overview of the history of the Christian Liberty Party. The original purpose of the Christian Liberty Party website was to provide a forum for communication, with the goal of the re-unification of various State Parties which disaffiliated from the Constitution Party National Committee in 2006. The hope was that these various State Parties with explicitly Christian and uncompromising Pro-Life principles would come together and continue to be a voice in the public sphere of politics. I was holding the name in trust, with the hope that one of the original Pro-Life leaders, such as Michael Peroutka, Cal Zastrow, Rick Jore, or Leslie Riley, would provide the charismatic leadership to draw together various Pro-Life State political parti

His Creation Order

By Angela Wittman Wives 'to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.' The recent endor sement of South Carolina GOP Gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley by Sarah Palin and her good showing in the primary has many attributing her popularity to Mrs. Palin's endorsement and continued involvement in her campaign . But at what cost to the family of Nikki Haley and those women who try to follow in her political footsteps? Politico reporter Kasie Hunt wrote this about Sarah Palin and her influence in conservative GOP races in the article Sister Sledgehammer: Sarah Palin takes aim at Dem women : "Palin is emerging not only as a standard-bearer for social conservatives but as a campaign trail Annie Oakley, a pioneering female pol who not only intends to flex her muscle to carry conservative women to office but also to shove more than a few Democratic women out of the way. “ 'No one before

Man’s Wisdom: Found In Keeping God’s Law

By Angela Wittman “Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;” ( Deut. 4: 5-9, KJV ) As a Christian pro-life activist who supports “personhood” for the preborn , I have been following the Right to

Scott Brown’s Election to US Senate: A Hollow Victory for the Preborn.

By Angela Wittman Many “pro-life” leaders are applauding the victory of Scott Brown (Republican) to the United States Senate in a special election held this past week in Massachusetts. In all honesty, his victory is at best, a hollow one for the preborn. Let’s take an objective, non-partisan look at Scott Brown’s record and rhetoric on prenatal child-killing as recorded at the website “ OnTheIssues.org ”: Scott Brown on Abortion * 2005: Conscience-based opt out of post-rape contraception. (Jan 2010) * Provide info about emergency contraception to rape victims. (Jan 2010) * Support legalized abortion, but not partial-birth abortion. (Jan 2010) * Supported by right-to-life groups for stem cell stance. (Jan 2010) * Authored bill for 24-hour waiting period for abortion. (Jan 2010) * Abortions should always be legally available. (Nov 2002) Provide info about emergency contraception to rape victims Brown voted for a 2005 amendment to deny emergency contraception to rape victims, but Coakley&

A 'higher calling'

Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, recently announced her intention to resign from office, and offered this explanation in her resignation speech: "In fact, this decision comes after much consideration and finally polling the most important people in my life - my children (where the count was unanimous... well, in response to asking: 'Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children's future from outside the Governor's office?' It was four 'yes's' and one 'hell yeah!' The 'hell yeah' sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that... I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently.) Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities right – that time is precious... the wo

A Call to Raise a Biblical Standard (Part Two)

Last week we looked at Scriptures (Psalm 33: 12-22 and Psalm 53: 1-3) which tell us that the nation whose God is the Lord is blessed and those who say there is no God are foolish and corrupt. This week I want to share with you “The Scriptural Basis for Christian Civil Government” which is found in the book Explicitly Christian Politics – The Vision of the National Reform Association , edited by William O. Einwechter and published by The Christian Statesman Press in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The first section on page 256 is under the heading of “Scriptural Teaching as to the Origin and Nature of the Nation” and tells us: 1. God is the Author of all national life (Deut. 26:19; Ps. 86:9; Acts 17:24 – 26). 2. God brings each particular nation into existence in its own time in the progress of the world’s history (Acts 17:26). 3. God gives to each nation its own rightful territory (Acts 17:26). 4. It is, therefore, God’s prerogative, as the Just Ruler of nations, to take away national life,

A Call to Raise a Biblical Standard (Part One)

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” – Psalm 33: 12 One only has to read the daily news to see that our nation is in dire straits and we have lost our course. We have enemies within and without our shores which seek to destroy us. And while we watch the storm clouds gather and many are predicting doom and gloom for America, I have hope. Psalm 33, verses 12 -22 tells us: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fea

Can you smell the strong stench of death blowing across this nation?

By Angela Wittman I have been regularly witnessing at the child-killing places (also known as abortion mills) since 2001, and the strongest impression left upon me has been the stench of death and the sight of trash littered around those "gates of hell." So, when I came across pictures of the trash left by the Obama Inauguration my heart broke... A picture really is worth a thousand words and what does this one say about America and our newly elected president? Trash left on the National Mall after Barack Obama's Inauguration Please click here for a news report of President Obama ending the ban on funding for international groups that promote or provide prenatal child-killing and then tell me if you can smell the strong stench of death blowing across this nation. The book of 2Kings, chapter 21 tells us of a wicked ruler who sacrificed children and worshiped strange gods. His name was Manasseh and here is his story (please take note of God's response to the evil reign

'when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn...'

Proverbs, chapter 29 of the King James Bible tells us: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn...Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance... The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it... In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice... The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it... Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath. If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest...The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul... If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked... The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever...When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteou

"God Trumps The State Everytime..."

An Interview with Dr. Laurence Vance, author of "Christianity and War and Other Essays Against the Warfare State" By Angela Wittman, editor of ChristianLibertyParty.com CLP Editor : First of all, please let me express my gratitude for your willingness to be interviewed for ChristianLibertyParty.com . My hope is to introduce our readers, who for the most part are Christian pro-life activists, to your work and to help them sort through the issue of what is the Biblical response to war. Dr. Vance : Thank you for contacting me and giving me the opportunity. Ed.: Please tell us when you first began researching the military and war from a Christian worldview and what prompted you to do this? Dr. Vance: I really began researching war and the military from a Christian worldview in the mid 1990s after I came across some articles on war in an old Baptist theological journal published before the so-called Civil War. Previous to this, there were two things that had caused me to quest
