Simply 'a woman who fears the Lord'

Last week we looked at Scriptures (Psalm 33: 12-22 and Psalm 53: 1-3) which tell us that the nation whose God is the Lord is blessed and those who say there is no God are foolish and corrupt. This week I want to share with you “The Scriptural Basis for Christian Civil Government” which is found in the book Explicitly Christian Politics – The Vision of the National Reform Association , edited by William O. Einwechter and published by The Christian Statesman Press in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The first section on page 256 is under the heading of “Scriptural Teaching as to the Origin and Nature of the Nation” and tells us: 1. God is the Author of all national life (Deut. 26:19; Ps. 86:9; Acts 17:24 – 26). 2. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” – Psalm 33: 12 One only has to read the daily news to see that our nation is in dire straits and we have lost our course. We have enemies within and without our shores which seek to destroy us. And while we watch the storm clouds gather and many are predicting doom and gloom for America, I have hope. Psalm 33, verses 12 -22 tells us: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. Many are experiencing financial difficulties due to the economic downturn our nation is experiencing. We all have friends and/or family members who have lost their jobs and some who have even lost their homes. The Bureau of Labor reports: “The national unemployment rate was 8.9 percent in April 2009, seasonally adjusted, up from 8.5 percent the prior month and from 5.0 percent a year earlier.” (Source: BLS.gov, Mass Layoffs, Monthly – May 2009.) These are challenging times in which to live, and while many have placed their trust in temporal things, they now see that foundation is not as sure as they once thought it was. I invite you to seek refuge in the sure rock of Christ Jesus. And while the Christian has eternal security in which to place his hope, he also has the temporal security of knowing that God is his help, refuge, and strength. Gallup recently conducted their annual Values and Beliefs Survey which indicates more Americans consider themselves to be pro-life than in previous years with 51% of American respondents claiming to be pro-life. The May 2009 survey also reports 23% of the public holds to a 100% pro-life view that abortion should be illegal in all circumstances: “The May 2009 survey documents comparable changes in public views about the legality of abortion. In answer to a question providing three options for the extent to which abortion should be legal, about as many Americans now say the procedure should be illegal in all circumstances (23%) as say it should be legal under any circumstances (22%). Each one of us will eventually face death and while many are uncertain about what lies beyond the grave, the Christian knows for a certainty that heaven awaits them. This knowledge gives us confidence to face mortality and say, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (1Cor. 15:55) For we know our Lord “has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2Tim. 1:10). “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.” (Matthew 5:13, ESV) I recently read the article “George Barna: America Is Being Destroyed Inside Out ” published in the Christian Post. The article quotes George Barna, a Christian pollster and founder of a research group called the Barna Group as saying: "The enemy of America today is not Iraq. It is not Afghanistan or communism. It is not Somalian pirates. It's the moral degradation and spiritual complacency of Americans... In essence it is the willingness of Americans to become victims of the imposition of values and objectives that defy our common good.” In the same article, Mr. Barna said that “the deterioration of American society is fueled by the breakdown in leadership and core institutions such as family, government, and education.” While I agree that America is imploding d...

Christian commentators have been abuzz with expressing their opinions of Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean and her public statement of believing marriage is to be between one man and one woman. Some commentators have even proclaimed Miss Prejean to be a new face for conservative values and that the GOP should be courting her as a standard bearer. However, there have been a few godly voices pointing out that Miss Prejean's lack of modesty is not Biblical and perhaps she is not a good role model for Christian girls. I happen to be in this camp and pray Miss Prejean will receive wise godly counsel on Biblical womanhood and the responsibility she has to be modest and present a chaste and pure appearance as a Christian woman, which will give her words and Christian profession more credibility. Sadly, many parents and churches are not teaching young men and women how to act and dress as representatives of Christ and the seductive message their lack of clothing sends to others. Praise th...
