This sounds strange but I mean it in the sense that there could be much worse. Dr. Ben Carson adheres to the SDA, whose founder taught that America is the beast that rose from the earth. Many of the candidates are allied to Rome, etc...
No matter what happens, our choice must be to pray for those in authority. Sometimes I remember that Christians were called to pray for Nero.
About the Covenanters, it is only within the last few years that I began to learn about them, but it hasn't been in a systematic way. Thank you for helping me to better understand their doctrine. Yes, both church and state must submit to the Lord.
Maria Tathamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01744157697446014478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6364993632163963485.post-73270711149463031132015-10-15T06:29:59.741-07:002015-10-15T06:29:59.741-07:00Hi Maria! I think you are right to follow your husband's lead in voting, and I'm praying my "prediction" of Hillary in the White House in 2016 will be wrong... That's one time I'll rejoice in having to rescind a statement. :) I think the Covenanters had it right regarding the two sphere's of government - Church and State - as both being under the Lordship of Christ, yet separate in the sense that the Church doesn't rule over the state and the state doesn't rule over the church; but both submit to Christ.Angela Wittmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6364993632163963485.post-29270395312360747892015-10-15T06:17:38.101-07:002015-10-15T06:17:38.101-07:00Angela, I too want to pass on voting again, but be...Angela, I too want to pass on voting again, but because of wanting to support my husband, and the fact that he would see not voting as part of the general problem, I will vote again, though unhappy with the choices as usual.
Also, an alliance of church and state, a theocracy, is problematic. The Church has almost always been a persecuted remnant. This doesn't mean we shouldn't work for just and righteous laws, as you have done (you've done so much more than I have!). But Jesus asked whether when He returns He would find faith on the earth. Now I realize that this is a question and not a statement in the negative, but it should give us pause about Christianizing the nations. Rome has done that in her perverted way, and her example is horrible as you know. When the Lord returns then the nations will be governed by Him.
Lastly, I wonder if our break with England was a good and godly thing. Christians are told to be submissive to the governing authorities. Speaking of Rome, that Antichrist system, did you know that some historians say that the Jesuits worked hard to separate our infant nation from Protestant England? Thank you for your godly stance and actions, your faith in action on behalf of the tiniest and weakest members of society who are so despised!Maria Tathamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01744157697446014478noreply@blogger.com
